13 schools around Houston rank among the nation’s best on the 2022 Challenge Index

The Jay Mathews Challenge Index ranks high schools across the country by measuring how many Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or Cambridge tests their students are taking. Thirteen Houston high schools made the list of the top 300 schools in the U.S., according to the Washington Post columnist’s ranking system. Instead of recognizing schools based on high test scores, the formula is intended to rank schools that challenge all of their students.
